When was the last time a loved one unintentionally really hurt your feelings and/or made you look ridiculous, how did you deal with it ?
I've recently really started trying to become better than okay at freestyle poetry ( commonly referred to as rapping ) and I'm terribly shy when it comes to self expression with anything other than my intellect in my group of friends because instead of being unshakeable and solid like an argument my flipping is extremely open to interpretation, giving others a lot of playroom to shoot me down. To give a little background I've been snapping out of a depression recently, I've just started getting over crippling social anxiety, and a poem I wrote on a whim, and recorded got some good feedback on facebook, so I decided that it would be funny to comment on a friends facebook status early in the morning and just flip whatever came to mind to impress him and kind of test the waters to see how my work is received. I thought I did pretty well, averaging about a line every 30 seconds, keeping my meter even and even throwing in some humor every now and then as he replied (in a way I interpreted as teasing but still being impressed) to his own status calling my sanity into question (something that really hurts my feelings because of not only my own history but family history as well, that shit hurts, its on par with not being taken seriously). I realized that I'd made a mistake and quickly tried deleting all my lines, at least I copypasted them into a file like I do with everything I write (i've got more than 120 pages of material in less than a weeks worth of writing cumulatively I think), but my little brother Posted this gif in the status, clearly indicating how laughable he thought my display at self expression was. Shit hurts considering how much respect I have for him and how much I look up to him. Thinking about this shit makes me well up. Fuck.
tl;dr Secretly be obsessed with freestyling and rapping, freestyle on friends facebook status as a joke, shot down, self esteem shattered. Little brother tops off the whipped cream of humiliation with a cherry by totally devaluing any attempt I made at trying to self express.
Sorry to vent but I want to get this out there to someone, even if none of you care and this falls on deaf ears I need someone to let me know I'm not alone in having loved ones ridicule your efforts at something. It hurts worse than I want to admit, which feels childish.
