Mid Lane: Gold per/10 vs Double Doran?

I came over some theories that gold per/10 actually is more efficient than the traditional Doran. Have someone calculated or in some way confirm this?

At the moment I'm working on improving my Akali, and I wonder if the Kage's Lucky Pick and Heart of Gold is the best starters for her.
