Help me figure out Multicore cables?

I've got a TSP2 setup at home, with an Audio 10, which obviously didn't come with the old Traktor Multicore cables. However, I play a fair bit of vinyl, and think flipping the "direct thru" switch in the software is a bit of a bother, the old way of using the line/phono switch just seemed a lot easier. I checked the multicore cables out, and am planning on doing something similar myself, but there's one thing I just can't figure out. The Traktor multicore cables have this 7-pin XLR connection (male on one snake, female on the other), and I just don't understand what the point of it is. Anyone care to enlighten me?
