Over the knee/Thigh high socks and shorts with tights?

What sort of shoes go with over the knee socks that I can walk around campus/work in? I have a pair of grey chunky heels that would look great but I'm searching for something more casual/comfortable.

I like the idea of the second outfit, but my style isn't as preppy as hers. Do you have any other shorts + tights ideas?
