Keep on Spittin'

NSFWWorkshop

Let’s sit here; on these chairs, couches, pillows, etc...
and pretend to philosophize.
We can pontificate
on animals, human or otherwise.
Or pick some other topic.
Astrophysics,
genetics,
or something more liberating: art!

But does it matter?
Can we ever measure meaning?
Or do we just invent it
in full recognition
that we might one day acknowledge
none of this has meaning.
Not in the sense that one day this universe will cease to exist;
or more immediately there might not be any humans
who are to cite our works;
or to repeat ad nauseum their agreement (or disagreement).
In the sense that if there are indeed many possible worlds
then there is a world in which we chose
otherwise
and so we never did
and maybe we even committed suicide (after the first suicidal thought)
or spin it back further (I won’t elaborate)

All possible worlds don’t just vindicate probability
They nullify uniqueness
And if meaning comes from uniqueness then
we would have to conclude that none of this has meaning…
But where does that leave us?

I’m not sure… could we redefine meaning?
Could we eschew or refine our concept of uniqueness?
Could we define it functionally based on interactions?
Or would we find, as most philosophers do, a middle ground
That is unsatisfactory on all accounts, but sufficient enough to quell our anxieties?

Perhaps
But then I’m not sure we would enjoy our pontification.
And maybe that’s a sufficient enough reason
Or maybe we just need any reason
I digress. Pass me a beer. Let’s keep on spittin’ as it were.
