Review:
I never thought I’d be this pleased by a genderlocked book, but here we are! I can tell the writers had a lot of fun making this book, and it shows, through the sheer personality in almost every line. Like, every character, even side characters and the stolid Professor Kingsley, has a distinct, fun personality that shines through. Speaking of Kingsley, the two LI’s are great! Zoey is amazing as a friend and presumably as a LI, although the scene with her after the Bacchanalia left me a bit sour. To clarify, I can see where she was coming from, but at the same time, she was extremely harsh to M/C. Ian/Ina are…interesting. I hate to say it, but I didn’t really care for Ian. I only romanced him because he is the only male LI, and I’m a raging homo. His personality was alright, and the forbidden romance stuff was neat I guess, but he felt much like Sam from The Nanny Affair in that he exists to have sex with M/C a whole bunch. Poppy is such an amazing antagonist, and I have to admit I can see why this sub was so feral over her a while back. She’s detestable, but in that good, Regina George type of way, and that makes her such a fun character. All the other Top 15-ers (aside from Tasha…what happened to that girl lmao?) are so entertaining as well. I have a weird thing for Ford’s sprite, so I love him and he is my stupid frat boy beloved. Chloe’s whole bimbo shtick is hilarious, and I love how all of the Zetas are kind of dimwitted aside from Poppy and Veronica. I also love the whole idea of the posse, and aside from Professor Roberta, I love how all the members are actively present throughout the whole novel, helping you. As for the plot, I adore it! The whole competition to reach the top and become the new Queen B is so entertaining! The ending is satisfying too, and leaves a great cliffhanger! As for gender-locking, I’ll admit, I’m not too fond of that. I can see why, with a book named Queen B, they felt the need to lock it to a female M/C, but I’ve always said that unless there’s a physical or historical reason as to why the M/C can’t be GOC, then make the book GOC. However, making this book GOC would involve gender swapping a whole bunch of characters, and tweaking the story to make it make sense for male M/C. So, with that in mind, I didn’t take any points off for the genderlock. This book is just on thin ice, is all.
In all, I adore this book, its humor, its characters, and it's over the top ridiculousness!
