St Kilda is definitely making up for a lot of past sins lately.
And this is just beautiful:
But more than anything, Muir is a player's man. His right knee is giving him hell these days, but on Friday, he wanted to climb the stairs of the club's new Danny Frawley Centre and belatedly pay his respects to a fellow son of Ballarat.
At the top of the new building, Muir broke away from the group and limped towards a ceiling-high portrait of Frawley's face made from mosaic tiles.
Lost in the moment, the old Saint reached for the tiles that made up his former teammate's face. When he stroked Frawley's cheek, it was with the tenderness reserved for family.
Through all of it the Saints have shown the correct and mature way to deal with this. They didn't hand wave or try to minimise it nor did they try to involve Robert against his will, just straight up said "we did fuck up, that's on us, we want to make this better, we also respect Robert may not want any part of this so we will leave that up to him and make the changes we can make".
Not ashamed to say this has me crying at 9am. This is a very touching bookend to the previous article, and it makes me happy.
I hope Woodville-West Torrens does the same thing too, he played for both clubs pre-merger, his career with Woodville ended in 1985 when he jumped the fence to fight a racist West Torrens fan who was throwing beer cans at him and racially abusing him
Said it before and will say it again - The ABC has just about the best footy journalism in the country. Great article and sounds like a genuine positive change and outcome.
its refereshing to see just well written journalism about the AFL. so much schlocky stuff on fox footy and all.
Congrats Saints. I didn't expect to see this after that last article. It's so good to see such positive progress being made of late with the Collingwood lads reconciling with the club and now this.
This is absolutely fantastic to hear. The original ABC article was pretty gunwrenching to read. While it can't undo the past, it's great to see the clubs done everything they could to try and heal the wounds.
Really proud of the inroads the club's making to heal these past wounds.
I really hope we don't take a backwards step on this front with Finnis leaving. I know a lot of supporters criticise him for his socially conscious approach but I think it's some of the best work he has done for the club.
I think he's laid a good groundwork for Lethlean to fix the football side of things now
