that matte screen looks sweet, but i want those pudding keycaps in the back
They're the HyperX set that's pretty common: https://a.co/d/6YjlZuu
The trick was finding the keys that didn't fit; I have a 96% layout (Keychron K4), so I needed some different-sized modifiers. Was very lucky to find this, which had pretty much everything I needed: https://www.adafruit.com/product/5148
There are four keys in the top right that have the wrong profile, but because they're in the corner and they match each other it doesn't really look weird.
thanks ill go with standard full size layout, the one the razer keyboard use
I have maglass and have had 0 issues with the touch screen.
Same.
Same same. I was worried about it so I ordered a dbrand as a backup. Magglass has been perfect so far.

Nice, one of the best comparisons out there.
I guess if one decides to buy a non-matte screen protector, there will be no anti-glare, but also no or very little image quality degradation, right?
I haven't seen any comparisons of matte vs. glossy screen protectors except for https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/w0uwbn/screen_protector_comparison_glossy_matte_512gb/
A glossy one will look just like a stock 64/256 steam deck. All you will get is some extra protection.
I got an ambison last week and when I first flicked through these pics the descriptions didn't show so I thought the magglass was the ambison cause that's what mine looked like. Mine was very matte with little affect to clarity or touch. Basically the opposite experience that you had. Maybe their QA sucks and you got a shitty batch. I've got a replacement coming in tomorrow (cause I suck at applying them) so I'll see what it looks like again then.
My ambison is way more matte than these pics also. Looks exactly like the magglass matte. I think OP got the normal version somehow.
Good luck with the install! I lined up one edge then slowly dropped it down while making sure the sides were even. Application stickers are awful on matte textures.
May I use some of your pics to make a side-by-side comparison post?
Sure
I have the 512GB and despite the anti-reflective properties of the screen, I applied (zero bubbles / super proud lol) amFilm glossy tempered glass screen protector on it.
Honestly, while it does make the screen glossy, I am not facing any issues. I play in my backyard (in a shade), indoors but away from direct light source, or in dark, and that’s it. I generally don’t want to take a handheld console out in harsh sunlight anyway. And once a game is on, I cannot even tell!
I’ve been using amFilm for years now and they’ve been great.
I cannot not use a screen guard. I’ll probably start crying if the screen gets scratched. Lol

Tried to get some good, consistent angles here. Everything was at around 45% brightness, except the MagGlass harsh reflection I think, to try to fight getting so badly washed out. These have all been installed and reinstalled, so there's some dust and bubbles that I didn't bother with fixing, suffice to say that the protectors were all completely bonded in the relevant areas. Other thoughts:
I would just avoid the Ambison. It's tenuously "matte", I would describe it as gloss with an anti-reflective treatment. It badly takes up fingerprints and gives weird rainbow effects and color cast to reflections, but at least noticeably mitigates direct and indirect reflections. Minimal impact on image quality.
The MagGlass is definitely an etched glass surface. It has a pleasing soft touch that does a decent job hiding fingerprints. The image quality does take a hit. I would say that details like text shouldn't be that bad to read, more that low-contrast details are hard to make out. Dynamic contrast is slightly worse overall.
Touchscreen response takes a noticeable hit with the MagGlass, and an even worse hit with the Ambison. Certain letters in the on-screen keyboard would take half a dozen attempts to register.
Right now I'm thinking I just might forego a protector entirely. I think I would keep the MagGlass if not for the touch sensitivity issue. Not interested in plastic, and keeping it in the case when moving around or not in use should drastically limit the risk of screen damage.
I think this one is a bug. It's a problem I had before I installed my magglass and it doesn't seem to have changed at all since I installed mine.
The Ambison matte should look almost exactly the same as the Magglass, from personal experience. I think they sent you the wrong one or something. Definitely shouldn't be seeing reflections like that.
Weird. It's definitely marked as the matte one on the package.
