The Issue Council is a pretty crappy bug reporting tool.

CONCERN

I recently experienced a bug where my character got locked into drinking mode, and all the buttons except escape and inventory, basically, failed to work. This was mid-Siege so I couldn't even re-equip my gun.

I went to report this of course, and found the same issue reported multiple times, all of them archived with ZERO action taken. Because the reports were done at slightly different times.

What kind of horrible shitty system closes and archives bug reports without a human even looking at it and making the decision whether to close it or not?

I mean, it's a great way to produce a shit ton of duplicate reports that never get accepted as bugs and just scroll off into "the archive" without anyone lifting a finger, but it sure as hell isn't conducive to thorough bug follow ups and having action taken on them.

The only issues that remain are ones people experience at the same time, that's annoying enough that many want to report it, and where three hundred people pile into the same bug report in the scant time it's alive before getting quietly archived.

It's certainly valuable if you get multiple confirmations of a bug, but just quietly ignoring everything that doesn't get confirmed by like 10 people is just some of the dumbest stuff I've seen in the vein of customer service.

No I think the issue council tool is pretty good

Yeah I have an issue with cases closing themselves with no human intervention. That's stupid. And insulting, to the people who take the time to report things only to be completely ignored apparently.

You mean the exact same people that don't take a few seconds for a search whether or not a report on the exact problem is already there?

And you want devs at CIG go through around 50.000 reports - created since around March last year when the new IC was launched - manually?

You wouldn't ever say they're slow in developement or need to fix more bugs, right?

Are you really assuming that the search of IC is working correctly?

I found three or four of my bug - and then I stopped searching. ONE was open, the other three were all archived and closed with zero action by any dev or Issue Council administrator.

That's just bullshit.

I'm sure there's an actual bug in there, that has like 15 or 30 or whatever bug reports, each not getting enough confirmations at first, just archived and ignored.

CIG should absolutely and without question look at EVERY SINGLE REPORT that is filed. There should literally be a person hired to do only that. Then intelligently either connect the report to an existing bug report as a dupe, or close it as not actionable or whatever.

If there aren't many confirmations - 10, within 10 days is the threshold - it probably doesn't have a big impact?

What's the bug you've tried to report? Mind to link two or three of these archived reports?

Not saying the IC is perfect, but it's far from "a pretty crappy" tool.

Starbase has the best reporting tool I have seen, press 1 key and it brings up a screenshot that you can highlight what you are specifically talking about, you can write up a description, and you can even get a dev reply to it in game.

Yeah I don't think the Issue Council site itself is awful either, but the fact that no bug gets even looked at (I assume) if it doesn't get like 10 other people pile onto it and say it's real within one week is absolutely nonsensical.

They say there's 50000 bug reports there. I guess that's like 500 bugs. The other 45000 are single-report dupes that closed and archived themselves... (ok this is probably a massive exaggeration.) :)

Nowhere near enough people use search before posting a new issue which wastes a lot of time.

but the fact that no bug gets even looked at (I assume) if it doesn't get like 10 other people pile onto it and say it's real within one week is

false. CIG looks at non-confirmed issues too. They just have a low priority because it is assumed that only few people encounter them. The priority is even lower, if the bug is related to tech or a feature that's scheduled to be refactored.

if you don't have a way to close reports that don't get replications, etc, then you end up with a morass of garbage reports. Yes, closing them will also filter out 'legitimate' reports - but they'll tend to be low-frequency or minor issues (because if it was happening frequently and/or have a significant impact, more people would have impacted enough to post replications, etc)

Likewise, a bug report requires a minimum number of replications / confirmation before CIG look at it... again, partly to filter out garbage reports, but also because it increases the likelihood that by the time CIG look at it, the steps to 'replicate' the issue are sufficiently complete that they actually work, and let CIG replicate the issue internally.

If they do, then the issue is added to their internal tracker - which doesn't mean they'll fix it immediately. Rather, aside from critical and stability issues, CIG tend to fix only bugs when they start the next iteration on a given function... at which point, they'll try to address as many as the 'known issues' in that area as possible at the same time.

This is pretty efficient from a development perspective, even if it is extremely annoying from a user perspective (because 'known' bugs can hang around for years before CIG eventually fix them).

So yeah, the Issue Council can definitely be improved - but some of it's annoyances come from the fact that it lets general users post bugs - which unfortunately also leads to garbage.

I just want an ingame bug reporting tool like every other alpha and beta I've ever participated in.

Hard to report in the game when 30k issues and CTDs remove you from the game.

sniperct🌈Corsair🌈•

That's why both options should exist.

Case in point, how often I get stuck on something or fall through planets, if I could click a button that records immediately time/loc/etc and sends it to them.

I'm not disagreeing. I'm just saying it's hard to report these bugs in game.

Post the link in here if anyone else has it they’ll give it rep
