How to start painting Tanks

Hobby

Hi! So recently after getting back to Hobby-s gaming side from small sizes Kill Team to Necromunda and now in summer to Horus Heresy.

Now the issue is I have never ever painted any Tanks, and the magnitude of flat panels gives me the painters jitters, and as I recently started studying the pricing wont help either.

How should an beginner tackle Tanks and start practising painting them, and are there any super cheap alternative models/ways to start practising with Tanks or tips and tricks? Recommend videos and any tips are welcome <3 ! Also generally anything I should know about when building them etc. I have plans save up and to buy an Kratos for Christmas, so atleast I have time to practise!

This is a pretty good tutorial

It's a leman Russ but it's pretty applicable to every vehicle unless it's a really weird shape like some Eldar stuff.

For all of mine I painted it all in subassembly so that made it easier for me to tackle smaller panels one at a time. Using a makeup brush to paint those also helped. Good luck!

Sub assembly is a bit unnecessary for tanks as you'd need to worry about scraping off paint to ensure good glue bonding. They are properly the easiest to do because it's basically a rectangle box if you take the turret off.

You are probably right, im just not that good yet so I like to take it slow and yes some paint does come off when its time to glue it but usually not in any spots that are easy to see.
