Anyone have experience using a Sony TV as a center speaker?

Audio Support

I've been putting together a home theater for the first time in my life, and just completed the audio portion of it. The final piece is arriving this Thursday: the new A95K. It will be my first time owning a Sony television (had previously only purchased Samsung). One of the features of this TV that appealed to me was that it includes a center channel output, though I'm not yet sure if I'll be using it as such. I have a couple of questions about it first and hoping someone familiar with the subject can help.

1.) I can't tell from the product photos if the TV accepts banana plugs. The photo makes it appear that it only accommodates bare speaker wire which is really unappealing to me. Can anyone confirm the type of speaker wire connection this TV accepts?

2.) My home theater audio equipment is not from Sony. I am using speakers from Definitive Technology connected to a Denon receiver. I'm far from being an audio expert, but there seems to be a general consensus that using a different brand of center speaker would lead to uneven timbre, and therefore isn't recommended. Has anyone used a Sony TV as a dedicated center speaker alongside a different brand of left and right speakers? If so, did you experience tonality issues? If so, were you able to correct it?

3.) Lastly, it would be REALLY important to me that the TV automatically use its own sound when my receiver is turned off. Truth is I don't need such elaborate sound for watching most cable TV such as news or watching YouTube. My current television uses its own speakers by default until I change the input to my AVR, which is what I hope will happen with the new Sony too. Can anyone confirm if the center channel setting can be set to be exclusively used with the eArc input only? So that sound from the other HDMI inputs will be from the TV instead? Basically I want to avoid have to manually change the sound settings EVERY time I want to switch the speaker source.

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions! I'll have the answers on Thursday when the TV arrives and I start diving around the settings menu, but I figured it couldn't hurt to find out ahead of time assuming this sub might have the answers. Fingers crossed! 😁
