oh man, if this were available to just purchase without assembly, I'd be so happy*.

*happiness dependent on availability in Europe, reasonableness of cost, and a million other factors that will never truly be fulfilled.

I'm in Europe. What would be a reasonable cost?

2
theskymoves•

With switches and keycaps, maybe 250 Euro. Without maybe 170 I think.

3
jamesmnwOP•

That is more or less reasonable, I think. Maybe a little more when you factor in acrylic plates and labour costs. The tricky thing about being in Europe is the import taxes and handling fees when buying from multiple vendors.

Based on the same main PCB as the low profile build that I posted yesterday, this Ursula has an extra column, an extra row, MX switches, underglow and per key RGB LEDs, twin OLED displays, dual encoders on one side and a Pimoroni trackball on the other, and the SplitKB puck for tenting.

Are you processing the data from the trackball? Actually I should ask first which firmware you are using 🤔 My feeling with the trackball using kmk is not so positive.

It is no longer so difficult to set these up in QMK. The UX limitations of the Pimoroni trackball are a hardware problem, not a software problem.

That makes me happy to hear!

Also, from what dasky and others have said, defining MOUSE_EXTENDED_REPORT seems to help a good deal with the trackballs. (it changes the xy reporting axis from +/- 127, to +/- 32k).

Very nice!

Make sure you enable the extended mouse reports (#define MOUSE_EXTENDED_REPORT), as that seems to help with the pimoroni trackball!

How’s the experience been with the trackball?

1
jamesmnwOP•

Not great, admittedly. I'm working on another design that uses a Cirque trackpad, which makes for a better pointing device.

Have you seen all the improvements to the cirque code recently? can definitely recommend!

Great. I am going to try to set it up on a STM32F411 chip, which I think Mega pushed new Stemcell code for in the last week.

Finally a ergomech I can get behind. This might be the one for me!

Is this one on your GitHub too??

1
jamesmnwOP•

Yes. It is the same one posted in the other thread. https://github.com/jimmerricks/ursula.

I don't like the idea of having 2 knob's on the same side but maybe some people can find it useful, one for increase and decrease the volume and the other one for scrolling up and down 😅

1
jamesmnwOP•

That's the great thing about the Ursula. Don't like knobs, don't add knobs.

Really cool design. I find the outermost thumb key interesting - is that something you can reach? The thumbcluster and pinkie stagger is my biggest gripe about the sofle, this approach definitely looks more comfortable!

1
jamesmnwOP•

Reach, yes. Use, not really. I typically drive a 34 key.

Interesting, perhaps it's my hands that are weird 🙂
