They massacred Bridget's actual identity

Strive

And by that I mean deploying the yo-yo. Shit is boring af now, it barely counts as a mechanic. Is there anything interesting to do with it anymore?

Sorry to divert your gender drama with gameplay thoughts tho, please go on with that.

You know what annoys me more than complaints about people complaining about Bridget’s gender?

People who needlessly bring up the ‘gender drama’ in unrelated topic OPs yet pretend like they’re above the drama LOL

I never played Bridget in +r so I have nothing to add about the gameplay itself besides, yeah I wish Strive didn’t simplify characters. I like BBCF levels of complexity in mechanics. +R feels a bit too janky to me sadly :c

I like BBCF levels of complexity

Strive is all against that, sadly. Sorry to annoy you tho, I'm just mad about my yo-yo.

Yea I play strive. I was just bringing up bbcf to show that I do know more complicated games despite not having played +r or Rev >,> and I honestly really like bbcf. The (optimal) combos are just so hard it’s been difficult to get accustomed to it.

I think its perfect as it is. GGS is a simpler fighting game, it wouldn't be possible to implement all the moves from the previous version of bridget without straight up giving her more moves than everyone else and then they'd have to rework the entire game to be more complicated.

They kept the core mechanic which is what they did for every other character, learning how to use it to its fullest potential is your new challenge rather than relying on several gimmicks crammed into one character.

Look at Jack-O as an example. half of her moves are designated specifically to the minions and for that reason alot of people don't like her. She can't do what alot of other characters can, or atleast not without extreme player effort. Which isnt GGS's selling point. The selling point is accessibility to fighting games for new players to the genre which is good. They've always been a smaller audience because of how hard they are to learn and now, with GGS future games will see more success for all developers

I agree with you and I did expect some degree of simplification to the yo-yo but not something this drastic, specially with a character with such a clear gimmick. This is exactly why I haven't been able to find a main that's fun for me; Strive is just not my game, apparently.

and that's ok. frankly I'm surprised you're not interested in Zato as he and Jack-O are probably the most complicated characters you're going to get in Strive.

It's ok to want a more complicated fighting game though. XRD still has a respectable player count no?

How was it like before? I haven't played the previous games so my unbiased mind thinks current yoyo setups and just rolling in the air is plenty interesting

Your HS was dedicated entirely to the yo-yo mechanic. You were able deploy it in many directions and it would stay put until you recalled or used one of its 4+ special moves. These had different properties and uses, including a stagger and an overdrive. It was insanely fun for me to play around that and it was what made GG stand to me from other fighting games.

*typo

Oh my that does sound interesting :o though I guess with strive simplifying things it had to go, my simple brain already feel what we have now is complex enough, with cancelling the roll with other moves and baiting and setups and all that

AnibeOP•

Yeah, I heard Testament got the same treatment. I guess that's Daisuke's vision now.

Yoyo is good why don't you like it?

It's way oversimplified, even compared to the character's first introduction in the series. There's no follow up special moves for crazy setups anymore. I guess this goes in line with the gameplay of Strive, but is so much noticeable with Bridget than other characters and I waited so long for her to return that it shocked me.

2

That could be said of every character movset in Strive.

Just because something is effective or even fun doesn’t mean can’t be a disappointment in some way. Especially if all you can think about is the other version of the mechanic/thing (in this case, yo-yo)

I was wondering how she played compared to in the past, and how old Bridget mains would think.

Strives whole thing is taking old characters and "streamlining" their gameplay. Not surprised a core part of her gameplay got simplified.

I'm scared for how A.B.A will play if she ever gets in the game.

I can assure you A.B.A would barely have any gameplay resemblance. I wouldn't even expect stance change and blood gauge at the same time. Those kind characters are getting a clean slate and I'm just figuring that out now.

The old yo-yo does sound more fun - and a whole lot more complex.

If A.B.A gets in her meter managament will likely be a lot more simple. Its a shame, because the character designs of old guilty gear games was very unique, and a huge part of the appeal.

They truly did, they retconned what made them, them

At this point these bait "gender drama" posts are more frequent and more annoying than the actual "gender drama" posts

so well done, i guess
