[EU] Small Tekkit server starting up

EDIT We will begin playing at this time, assuming Mumble is up by then.

Hello everyone,

I am looking for a small group of people to join me and a couple of friends on a server I will be creating sometime in the next 48 hours (depending on how soon a couple of people have letten me know they're interested). In case you'd like to start playing before then, I'm doing a bit of a 'beta-test' on my laptop, and if you've got Hamachi I'd love some company and/or help.

*Rules: *

1) VoIP is required. That's Voice over Internet Protocol, so programs like Skype, Ventrilo, TS3, or in our case most likely Mumble. Right now I'm just getting plugins and such set up using my laptop and Hamachi, but when I buy a proper server price will be important, and Mumble's generally the cheapest option to provide a push-to-talk button.

You don't have to talk (more than once, see the next rule), but you do have to listen. Always. Every time you're online. No exceptions. Well, possibly a few exceptions will be made, eventually, but not for the first week or so.

2) You need not be mature (I'm not), but you'll have to act it. Rather than set an arbitrary age-limit I will, for the time being, require that your voice has turned, since that'll hopefully prevent people from getting a headache from the effects of the previous rule.

Should this rule be changed, anyone who already has access to the server will keep it (unless they're the reason I'm changing it in the first place).

3) Do. Not. Grief. Ever. This is a teamplay server, so unless we've decided as a group to cooperate about making a big mess of things (somewhat like this), or we've agreed to split into teams somehow, harming any other player or what he's built without permission may well result in your being banned. Warnings may be given, but aren't guaranteed.

If this sounds boring to you, move along. Pass the street. Find another server. Feel free to post about how lame you think I am, though - bumps are always helpful.

4) No cheating. No exploiting bugs. Self explanatory, really.

I'd rather not disable EE, and simply banning any players who abuse it's flaws between now and when they're fixed is probably easier than trying to fix 'em myself.

5) Languages allowed: English and Japanese. And I don't expect you to know Japanese.

Still interested? Well you're still reading, aren't you?

*How to join: *

First off check that you have all of the following: Tekkit (or rather the Technic Launcher) Skype Microphone Speakers/headset/some other form of sound output Computer Keyboard Mouse

Next, fill out this form, and post it here or PM it to me: **IGN: ** **Skype: ** **Language skills: ** *Anything else: **

Once I receive it you'll be subject to an interview (though whether or not it's got more questions than "got Mumble or need help?" I cannot say here) after which I'll let you know the connection info.

*) This field can be used for making me aware of such things as your planning on making one or more youtube videos, having extensive experience managing a server, being willing to pay for the server, being fond of funny cat pictures, having a european-hosted server with the exact same rules, wishing to be a moderator, being willing to help me test out things via Hamachi, or.. well.. anything else.

Except for the unsolicited moderator application (which I'll probably just ignore) and fondness of funny cats, you might also want to add me to Skype (handle: Runiat) for any of the other examples to speed things along - just be sure to mention that's why you've added me, or possibly send the entire form with your request.

TL;DR: I took the time to write it, you can take the time to read it. If not, you do not want to join this server, or even play the game /jedimindtrick.

PS: Sorry for the lack of clear paragraphs, but reddit doesn't seem to accept empty lines..

Does the EU stand for a European server? Im not sure how that will affect the lag I might get.

RuniatOP•

Yep. In my experience cross-atlantic connections add about 150-250ms to your ping. Not sure how badly this effects Minecraft, though.

Groundedge•

I can test it out i guess.

Can an American connect to an EU server?

RuniatOP•

You'll have a significantly increased ping-time, but as this server is more about building than fighting chances are it wont kill you too often.

Just a quick update: Settings are set up, even found a good seed to base a world on, and all we're waiting for is the host to get their website online so I can start the server (and hopefully for them to get a Mumble server set up). Also one of the mods-to-be is having some odd connection issue. Since I have no idea when the host's website might be back online (so that I can restart the server and get the new map in-game) and I've been up all night I'm going to go to sleep now and we'll start playing tomorrow (or, well, this afternoon, actually). Hope to see you all there.

So if I have a skype it's fine if I don't have mumble?

1
RuniatOP•

No, sorry, you'll have to get Mumble. As nice as Skype is it lacks 1 major feature to be used for gaming: a push-to-talk button. I don't want to hear you tapping your keyboard and such. On the bright side Mumble is free, and if you're concerned it's some form of malware the source-code is available for you to read through and compile yourself, so really no reason not to get it :P

Skype does have PTT! It's in hotkeys. When you press the button, it will change to the opposite state (mute or not) until released.

1
RuniatOP•

Ah, they finally added that? I still prefer a client where PTT is, if not actually the default setting, then what people expect to use. Either way: Mumble is required. No exceptions. Besides, this way you'll be able to freely use Skype for whatever else you might want to do.

NorthAntrim•

Oh yes, mumble is much better for gaming, especially with lots of people in an easy way, just pointing out Skype has PTT :)

Hey there, this seems like a place of equalminded people! All of ^ I got, except the maturaty bit might waver from time to time. Other than that, I love jaffa cakes and might have tendencies of saying funny things when the occation bids itself. Ign is Steepfence and im 21 Skype is mr.upperfarm And language lvl is fluent american even tho im from norway!

IGN: mkucz99chef (I'm using my brother's until I can get my own) Skype: I have one but haven't used it in awhile so I'm gonna see if I can guess my password or if I need a new account. I'll put my Skype in later. I speak English obviously. You can probably guess that I'm fluent in polish. I'm 14. I've always been mature for my age. I'm still learning in tekkit, but I catch on quick. I am a little obsessive compulsive, so I can probably help organize machinery if needed. I'm in America, so the ping might be affected.

IGN: sufferingyeti Skype: can't really remember my password so I'll get that later experienced tekkit and vanilla player.

1
RuniatOP•

No worries 'bout Skype. Was mostly intended for if only one of two people replied and we could use Hamachi instead - well beyond that, by now, already got a proper server set up. You will need Mumble, of course, but that'll be a brand new server so nothing to remember there just yet.

1
RuniatOP•

Right, yet another update.

I have now got everything set up on the minecraft server, except that 1 person is still unable to connect. Completely new world (seed is "biome", if you want to do some exploration). I am, for some reason, unable to connect to the host's control panel from this computer, but as my cellphone's got a different IP that apparently makes the difference.. yeah.. I don't know why either. Do hope there wont be too many problems once we get going as their system really leaves a lot to be desired.

All we're waiting for now is for the Mumble server to finish setting itself up and we will begin. As soon as I get the info for the Mumble server I'll send out PMs to everyone who's posted here (or in the threads I made in other places), and once you've logged on there (and proved you have a microphone, know how to use it, and I've noted down who you are and where you posted) I'll let you know the server info and we'll begin.

If everyone could be online 4 hours from the time of this posting that's when we will (hopefully) begin.

Alright. Excellent fun playing with you guys last night. Since then, it appears the server's IP has been changed, our Mumble server's finally come up, and I've enabled the whitelist. Anyone who's signed up here should be receiving a PM within the next couple of minutes telling you the IP of the Mumble server. You must log on Mumble before I add you to the Tekkit server whitelist.
