I think the word for bad ass is Cabron... but I've heard it used very differently by different Spanish speakers and been told it also means bastard and douche.
Yeah, cabron is more if you want to call somebody an asshole.
I can't think of a good translation for bad ass off the top of my head. Slang is funny that way.
