Any issues with this mid range gaming build?

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

Need to build a new machine for my teenager. They will use it for school and for gaming. They play Roblox, Minecraft, Raft, Valheim, and so on. Nothing super graphics intensive, but I'd like the machine to be reasonable in case they do move to those games in the future. I'd also like it to expandable if they need more disk or memory.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

I'd like to keep it around $1500, but could go up to about $2000 if there was a good reason for it.

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

Immediately

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

Tower only, including OS

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

Pennsylvania, US. Don't have access to Microcenter.

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

Current monitor is Acer Nitro VG240Y (1920x1080). Would like the option to upgrade later to 1440p.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

No, and this is why I changed the motherboard. They have a

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

SSD only. Expandable RAM to 32 GB, but starting with 16. Free HDMI port somewhere for drawing tablet.

What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.

Wired

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

They're fine with a plain looking case. I would like good documentation and ease of troubleshooting.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

Yes, Windows 11 Home

Extra info or particulars:

I came up with this list and mostly want to make sure it's reasonable. It's based on logicalincrements.com Superb with a few changes based on what is actually available.

Yeah you can definitely get more bang for your buck if you make a few changes. Also heads up, new hardware will be launching in a few months, so if you are fine with waiting, I'd do so.

  • The 12600KF drop the integrated graphics and saves you $15. Worth it IMO.

  • The noctua U12S redux is a pretty terrible cooler. It's performance is average at best and it's really expensive for a single tower 4 heatpipes cooler. The Thermalright peerless assassin 120 SE performs far, far better whilst costing a good bit less.

  • I suggest getting a cheaper motherboard. Whilst you will loose some features such as an M.2 slot, 2 SATA ports and a handful for USB ports, performance really isn't affected and besides most people don't really need the features of a high end motherboard. The MSI B660m-a pro is dirt cheap yet has just as good VRMs and saves you a lot of money.

  • For the memory, I think that you should just get 32GB. It's really not that much more expensive and it's quite helpful. I doubt it's necessary but it fits into the budget easily so why not I guess.

  • For the storage, the WD SN570 performs simarly to the Samsung 970 evo plus whilst costing $30 less.

  • Now here is where all the saved money is dumped. Do you need a 6900 xt to play minecraft? Probably not. But it's definitely one of the best graphics cards on the market and fits just into budget. It enables 1440p and 4k gaming with high FPS, even in really demanding games. If you don't think it'll be necessary, you can stick to the 6700 xt. If you think it's a bit overkill, you can grab the 6800 xt. Also DO NOT PAIR A 1080P MONITOR WITH ANY OF THESE GRAPHICS CARDS. Go with at least 1440p or 4k.

  • The case is good, but if you have a 6900 xt inside, I'd add an extra fan for a tad bit more airflow.

  • The EVGA GQ is a pretty terrible psu. Transient response and ripple performance is absolutely awful. I suggest the super flower leadex III gold. It costs more but it's one of the better gold rated PSUs with very solid performance, nearly no noise and a 7 year warranty.

  • If you grab windows 10 from here you can get it for free (official website). Now this is an unactivated key, so there are a few minor differences vs the activated version. The biggest one is the watermark, but that can be removed easily like this. Saves $130 easily.

Thanks for the suggestions. You and the other commenter both changed the power supply and cooler, so I'll definitely be making changes there. I'll also consider a better GPU.

I'm not sure about getting a micro ATX mother board though. I only build PCs every few years and I really want an easy to configure, well labeled board. That part of the build is usually the most challenging for me.

Thanks very much for the help.

When it comes to the motherboard, most Intel boards are mATX so you'll have to keep that in mind. But if mATX is a problem, I'd look into the MSI B660-A pro which I'd the same thing but bigger.

Thanks, the mother board is definitely the biggest question for me. I'll use that one.

I'd do this, and windows is free to use https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zyWqNc

I have a similar build for sale if you are interested. Has a 12600k, 3060ti, z690 mobo. Everything is new. https://www.jawa.gg/product/3661/no-rgb-pure-performance-i-5-12600-k-evga-3060-ti

I can swap the 3060ti to a Tuf 6700xt if you'd like.
