Can't use wifi with an external drive installation

I just installed Linux on my ssd external drive as I don't wan't it on my main drive.

I'm using it with an USB to SATA wire. Can this setup make my linux installation unable to use correctly the network hardware of my laptop?

I don't have this problem when installed on my main drive. It cannot be some drivers issue as I tried on this same laptop many distros, installed on the main drive, and wifi just worked.
