The End

Poem

I watched as Time came to an end
A patient, steady force
A hand that dared not venture past
Circumference of its course

A passing stranger reaching out
I took his hand in mine
And pleaded if there be a cause
With which to ease this mind

“To who, or what, or which, or why
I cannot surely say
Except that when tomorrow comes
I’m further than today”

And on he tread with bloodied feet
His skin turned pale and dry
Until he was no more in sight
And there I knelt—and died.
