Going Down

Poem

Going Down

Lifeless livers

Lurching toward the finish line.

Inhabiting

Languid troughs of turpentine.

Conveyor belt

Bruised and battered bile ducts.

Onlookers, they

Shake against the self-destructs.

Sorry sinners

Lacking directional view.

One by one they

March in a disjointed queue.

The livers know

Down is a direction too.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

I greatly appreciate the word play between "liver" as in someone living and "liver" the organ.

I encourage you to think od ways you can push it further if that interests you? you know, a liver organ that does a lot of heavy lifting and dirty work in the body. It gets put through a lot of stress but bites also an organ people take for granted. Mayne even using the imagery of the existence of being a abused little wad of meat tissue shoved I'm the bottom of the torso? Just a lot of fun to be had with that concept and the themes you're touching on with the drudgery of living.

Great piece of writing!

This was a great read! I didn’t even notice the double meaning of “liver” until another comment pointed it out. Very clever.

I took me a couple of reads to fully understand the poem which really gave it some depth. With every read I understood a little more. Might also just be the case because I’m not a native speaker, don’t know.

I found the last line to be really impressive. Great work
