Leading Tone

Poem

My chord feels strummed,

it lifts the dust from its bones in a rush, my tone is like oak being bent.

My fibers are stretched in discordant unison,

lifting a note to the heavens with a melodic palm.

I ring out...for you.

it's short, but the concept is so nicely splayed out. it's been a while, so long you're dusty but this person makes you sing.

Appreciate the kind words. I like emotionally descriptive writing. Giving a feeling life is a fun exercise.

This is beautiful and makes me want to frolic through fields of wildflowers to the sound of acoustics.

I took this as a longing for love lost, maybe just the word choice. For example “my chord feels strummed.” Is an amazing line, but reminds me of nights filled with too much work, the walk back to the car as the sun comes up and you scurry home like a mouse to slumber. Same with the bent oaks line, I play a lot of guitar and interpret bent oaks to sounds like atonal crackling. I enjoyed that you said so much by saying so little, with an interpretation that goes each way emotionally, there’s a happy way to look at it, and a sad longing way. Good stuff.

I love your interpretation, I'm grateful I could evoke that from you. It was an intentional choice for the poem to convey more complex emotions. I enjoy when i can return to a piece of art with a new understanding or appreciation of it.

To me this feels like being awakened by a new love after a long time of isolation, like you're stretching after waking up from a sleep and returning to something that you missed, that feels natural.

I love how your words evoke so many ideas from all of us here I got the feeling that the speaker broke up with his first love and got with another new Love and then decided to get back with his old love the first love and that’s the tension in the poetry I don’t know what do you guys think

I’ve loved reading about peoples’ interpretations. In a sense I do believe at first what we see is coloured by our desires, and by our experiences in life.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that.
