Stolen Identity

Poem

I have never quite understood

how to interact with other humans

Turns out

I was missing an identity

Stolen from me as an infant

I constantly live in my own head

Calculating how to act

What to say

A glitch amongst my peers

I have entered my mind

With a map to find myself

Discovering clues along the way

Piecing each one together

I can feel myself starting to become whole

It’s a strange feeling

Finding yourself

It's a bit jarring how relatable this is even as a short piece. Probably because I understood immediately the context and setting, I feel for you. The silver lining is you clearly have an unusually populated toolbox from survival that will let you find yourself.

This is how I feel being neurodivergent. Slowly I am finding myself as well. “A glitch amongst my peers” is my favorite line. It’s a really good way to describe the feeling of not belonging. Great poem

The next step is to forget about yourself this analyzation. Urian is necessary but don’t stay here too long wallowing in self awareness go ahead and start thinking about not thinking

Are you autistic or neurodivergent? I like how you captured how alienating it feels with the phrase "other humans." Living in your own head gets quite lonely but when you feel like you don't fit, sometimes it's the only option. Calculating and glitch add to this. Being able to connect with other people makes you feel like a robot just going through motions of what it's supposed to look like to be a normal person. "It's a strange feeling, finding yourself" tru dat. Strange and wonderful.

Not diagnosed with anything, I was adopted and I attribute these feeling to that and where that lead

indeed I agree about the strange feeling, I have ben struggling with my identity myself (I have autism, not diagnosed until I was forty). my favorite line is "I have entered my mind" because somehow it just feels very clever in its simplicity and truthiness.

Very interesting. Kind of reminds me of those who believe in a sort of a priori experience.

I believe that this could be improved by adding punctuations, but maybe your intention was to omit them. We not only struggle to discover ourselves, but others as well (you could say).

'a glitch amongst my peers' really stands out to me, that’s such a succinct but evocative way of putting that feeling of "I should fit in but I don’t". a very familiar feeling for me. love this.

This honestly gave me chills. I really enjoyed “I was missing an identity, stolen from me as an infant” because from the moment you’re born, societal pressures and norms begin to shape you from the pure, whole being you are born as. You’re right, this world does steal your identity. People are always trying to please and impress people at the cost of their own happiness and identity. This is absolutely beautiful, you have true talent ♥️
