After Dresden....

Discussion

I just got back into these Books. It was about 7 or so years ago and I only got about 3 books in.

I rediscovered they are in audiobook and I am consuming them greatly. This is my first time with them all and I am about to start Skin Game.

I realize that the series is close to an end. Butcher says the series will be done in 21 novels or so.

Does anyone know the best way to keep up with new releases? How can I get pinged when a new book comes out?

Two are there any mentions to expand the universe? I'd love to use the rise and fall of Justin DuMoore. I'd love to hear more from Molly oh.... And a series focus on the Knights of the Cross with back story on Shiro!!

I am not asking for 20+ books. Maybe novel on Justin, 1-2 on Molly and a trilogy for the knights. Basically Shiro when he is young when he recruits others, maybe how Michael starts out

Any thoughts or hope?

Honestly, this sub seems to be the best place for me to get news. Anything gets announced, it will be on here real fast!

You'll never get a book on the knights - The knights make great supporting characters because they can hold a firm position and not waver on it.

Main Characters have to be able to have crisis of faith, moments of doubt and dabble in the dark side a bit. These are all things that knights don't do.

The central contender to be the next main character is SPOILERS territory.

Butcher has told us who he plans on making the next main character as a firm fact.

He has also told us he lies sometime ….

Who has he said? I know he says he's a liar but I'm still curious...

Although you may be right, about not getting a book on this I disagree. I think a book on the knights would be ideal. Their firm positions I don't contest your comment.... But those who support them. Aka the church and how some of the silver coins got returned to the Fallen. That would be a cool story. How the coins returned or ALMOST returned to evil.

Those who assist the knights, but maybe twist them. I also don't just mean evil or supernatural... Just bad people. The book series already spoke of one.

Wait... So Butcher plans to continue the Universe under someone else?!? No spoilers please. It is amazing to see this story untold for the first time.

I actually disagree with them being unwaveringly dedicated. Completely dedicated and unwavering ideals are the stuff of fanatics and cults. That's the kind of thing you see in the Nickleheads. Even Saint Teresa wrote in her dairy of long suffering doubt and questioning the beliefs she espoused. I'm not saying they have to have a crisis of faith or anything but even the knights have to have moments of doubt, frustration, fear. I think you could do a lot with the story of Michael rescuing Charity etc.

Jim has commented that he has some plans in mind after the main series is complete. I'll leave it at that for now.

Skin Game is one of the best audio books in the series. Marsters' performance is fantastic.

Lol I loved him doing the voices of the monster prisoners at demon reach. I envision him having a blast and having to do multiple takes to avoid laughing.

After the main series of ~20 books there is going to be a BAT. Big Ass Trilogy or Bad Ass Trilogy, Hells Bells, Stars And Stones and Empty Night are rumored to be the names for the final 3 books

Some of the short stories are from the perspective of other characters.

Big Apocalyptic Trilogy, wasn't it?

That too.

( Thanks for the correction)

Thanks I appreciate this reply

I am catching up on the short stories in between. I need to look into the comics. I am told those have good stories too.

Even the Dresden RPG books have original stories

Jim also said in one of his interviews (I think his first BG/Peace talks interview with Marsters) it will probably end up being 22-25 books including the BAT

I’m not Jim. I just run his website, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for him.

I’m not Jim.

Or that's what you want us to think. Nice try Jim.

I find the best way to keep up is to go to Jim-butcher.com and hit refresh about every 27 seconds or so.

If we ever see any background on the Knights I suspect it will come in short story form. One of my friends thinks we might get a short story set in Shiro’s past, and that will be the most likely chance of seeing the fourth Vampire Court.

If we are taking a vote... I am totally on board with this!!

JediTigger•

If we ever see the Jade Court it’ll be in Shiro’s background. Bet you.

That's 21 novels before the Big Apocalyptic Trilogy (not to mention that number was before Peace Talks got split between Peace Talks and Battle Ground and him decided a book about Harry dealing with trauma over the next year following BG).

I believe the short stories like the ones in Side Jobs and Brief Cases will be all the alternative PoVs we get, but Molly has a couple very important ones. Heads up the audibook versions of Side Jobs and Brief Cases have some guest narrators who aren't that good imo. I also recommend reading those short stories before Peace Talks.

I could see short stories for some of the characters, but a little unlikely for Shiro.

Also not directed at you op but for everyone, there will be 22 "cases" before the Big Apocalyptic Trilogy, which will bring the series to 25 books.

It was 20 cases, but Battle Ground and the upcoming Twelve Months were not in the original plan. Peace Talks was split into 2 books which is Battle Ground, and it would be spoilers to talk about 12 Months.

I think Jim has mentioned doing a Goodman series, where it gets to a lot of the darker parts of the universe that Harry just will never see. I think possibly a Maggie young adult series but can’t recall the source for either but I think it’d be cool.
