Can you improve this present for a good friend of mine? Canon 650d, EF-S 18-135mm kit lens, EF-S 10-22mm, 50mm f1.8

Any other lens/camera combination that is better, with similar budget (+/- $1000)

Don't want to make any stupid mistakes... any lens out there I should be looking at? Just want to make sure he has a good camera and introduce him something else than his point-and-shoot photo making
