After lots of trial and error, I finally got a Sensory Percussion setup working with my Eurorack. Still needs a bit of finesse and sound sculpting but I'm having lots of fun. And that's how you play drums in a tiny NYC apt without bothering the neighbors!

My apologies for the shitty iPhone video frame, I sold my video camera earlier this year and can't find my tripod 🤷 Anyway off screen in my rack I'm controlling the following:

Snare - controlling 2hp Snare going through a DaveSmith Feedback module. Velocity adds pitch and additional feedback weirdness

Rack tom - controlling Roland 510 through an Erica Smiths Black Delay. Velocity adds brightness and more delay timing shifts

Floor tom - controlling Manis Iteratas. Velocity adds like everything on the module for increasing razzle dazzle

Kick (using a Roland TD7 pedal) - controlling a DFAM. Basic velocity, I usually want to keep Kick very simple as the foundation

Sensory percussion is triggering midi which in turn is routed in my computer to CV.OCD which in turn gives me 4 triggers and 4 CV outputs (which I'm using as velocity). Lots and lots of multing and VCAs and attenuators to get it feeling right.

I also want to eventually use the SPDs pad next to me to trigger additional stuff (over MIDI>CV), hoping I could set up some cool hi-hat and percussion stuff. Now I need a Tyso Daiko... and maybe a sampler... ;)

I still need to figure out some latency issues. The Sensory Perc software is set at its lowest buffer (64) and my audio interface and DAW is also set at the lowest possible latency. Yet even then, when I play I feel a tiny drag which throws me off as a drummer, so I hope to figure that out soon. Maybe it just takes getting used to.

Does anyone else use Sensory Percussion with success? Do you have any patch ideas and tips to share? I almost prefer using it just as a trigger device for CV and midi... to be honest the actual software and kits are a bit awkward to work with and difficult to record.

Please, if you don’t mind, explaining more on triggering the DFAM?

Oh ironically that was the easiest one of all! You just turn off the run/stop button, make sure wherever 'advance' is lit up is turned up on all the dials on the sequencer, then into the trigger input you send a trig/gate, and into velocity you send CV.

I might definitely try later on using the velocity CV from my trigger to send into the other inputs, like noise, filter, vca decay etc could all be cool... so the harder you play the kick the more ballsy it gets.

Sick! I have a similar setup.

I'd love to hear about it if you have a sec!

I got an alesis nitro mesh kit going into a bastl looper then a 1010music 1X4 midi then a tram8 and a Erica synth trigger. Those are all triggering wmd modules and a mutant hi hat.

Very nice 🙂

Are you monitoring through the interface or the DAW?

Hmm. And I’m sure you checked an analog out (headphones) from your rack. Sensory Perc…don’t know about this - it’s software? so does that mean your drum kit is a midi controller? Or some thing proprietary that gets converted to midi in the software?

https://youtu.be/M6kuW4cNEVo I’m just sending midi out of a drum brain, yours seems a lot more useful lol

This is fantastic!

I want to do this with a Roland SPD or Nord Drum 3P coz I don’t have space for a kit. Is it possible?

If you're not too shy, put it up on YouTube with a little breakdown of how it's all linked together. I'm sure that nerds will support! 🤓 Sounds dope af!
