Little Green
I gazed between the stars
Last night
And the earth stopped buzzing
The breeze stopped breezing
And I myself
Stopped
Soft and silk, the black
Fluttered
Gentle and weightless
Covered
Wrapped me and hoisted me
Away from the buzzing breezing
Earth
Met with the face of a little green
Thing
Somehow lost and hopeful and intense
This encounter
Not by chance
Little green smile, little green wink
Through the vacuum
It and I twirled
With bubbling quanta
Spun
As one
The field cradled
It and me
And us
For the time
Grateful
The fabric – flexible, forgiving
Twisting
We fell
Together well
As once we were, long ago
Together again
This time grateful
Yet –
My heart tumbled
When the cosmos caved
Gave me back
To myself, alone
The little green thing
Gone
But here
But gone
I suspect we’ll dance again
Not now
Not soon
But its little green atoms
And mine
Will collide
Somewhere far
From the buzzing and the breezing
