How do I grow an social media following?

So, i'm in a bit of a pickle...

I've never been very active on social media. I've always felt like it was designed to be a timesink and to make people feel bad about themselves.

However, sadly, we now live in a time where most people find the businesses they purchase from online, wether that be on instagram, facebook, or whateverelsethefuck is out there.

While I already own and run a succesfull business, the business I already own is focussed on a trade where social media presense simply doens't make that much of a difference. Obviously it helped a lot that I purchased an already established business.

Now, i'm starting a new business, from scratch this time, and this one is more aimed at the creative market, which has brought me to social media to advertise and showcase my work. I am set to officially start in a couple of months so I have *some* time to attempt and grow something that resembles an audience but I have been trying for a couple of months already and I haven't gotten passed the obligatory friends and family following me.

So here I am, looking for advice. How the hell do I do this? I have been uploading, I have been creating, hashtagging and sharing as much as I can do, so have some of my friends and family. I have a website, instagram, facebookpage and a pinterest, but none seem to be getting any traction.

All tips and advice are more than welcomed, as I am confident of my abilities to make this work, less confident of my marketingskills.
