Do I need to do social/voice chat?

I tend to play most games solo. Not by choice, I am just reserved when talking with strangers. All the vids I've watched implied it's heavily social or need a large clan. As a solo'er, can I still have a good time? I'll probably end up doing more support roles than anything else, as I typically do that in games like this.

It's been on my wish list for years and with 1.0 around the corner, thought I would pick it up this weekend to give it a try.
