As someone who has seen about 7 movies in his life, I want to start watching movies again.

Discussion

It may sound unbelivable to some, but I've seen only these following films in the past decade:

  1. The Shawshank Redemption - My most recent watch, absolutely loved it, jam packed with symbolism, the twist was great, I didn't even notice how much time passed until the movie was over.
  2. Inception
  3. Parasite - My first dabble at watching a Korean movie, it was honesty great, lots of twists that I could have never guessed for the life of me, nor did I expect
  4. Bad Genious - My first dabble at watching a Thai movie, it was pretty great thriller/heist with a school setting
  5. PK - My first dabble at watching a Hindu movie, it was pretty funny I liked the comedy of it
  6. Interstellar
  7. The Martian (2015)

Both interstellar and martian I watched when I was into the whole semi-realistic space genre mood one time.

I'm open to any recommendation, any genre, it doesn't matter if the movie is old or recent, long or short. Things simillar to the movies I've seen would be nice, but I'd not complain if you recommend me stuff that's out of my "comfort" zone if you can even call it that hahah

Well if I like one thing, is when movie has a twist, but don't mention to me that the movie has a twist, it kinda makes me stay on alert when I'm actually watching it. I prefer going in mostly blind but knowing the setting and roughly what it's about is what peaks my interest.

Shoot your shot!

EDIT: Holy shit so many responses, I'll compile all distinct suggestions and watch them in no order one by one! Thank you alll!!!

Yes. That's the one. I have a Criterion Edition, unopened and tucked away in a bookcase. It's been laying dormant for years. I haven't found the 'wrong' time to open it and view it. Still not sure why I purchased it.

There's so many to choose from, here's just a tiny handful:

Alien (1979) - this is a sci-fi horror classic, make sure you want the 1979 theatrical release, not the much later 'director's cut' which is an inferior re-edit done for marketing reasons - even the director, Ridley Scott, prefers the 1979 theatrical release.

Jaws (1975) - horror classic

WALL-E (2008) - beautifully made and heartwarming animated movie from Pixar

Spirited Away (2001) - Japanese anime movie, if you're okay with subtitles then watch it with Japanese audio and English subtitles, if not then your only option is the English dub which, IMO, isn't as good. If you enjoy this try the other anime movies from director Hayao Miyazaki, on the whole they are all superb.

The Prestige (2006) - magic, illusions, tricks ....... ? watch it and make up your own mind. :)

The Sixth Sense (1999) - supernatural horror

Two classic Hitchcock movies for you: Rear Window (1954) and Vertigo (1958)

there's so many more that I could list ........

I'm going way off the beaten path for a very specific reason.

The Mist was a short story written by one of the most prolific, popular, authors of our lifetime.

the story was adapted into a so-so movie of the same name that has an unforgettable twist at the end.

the author I mentioned stated that he wishes he had thought up that ending... that's how unexpected it was.

this one isn't a classic like many of the other suggestions, but if you want to turn your brain off a little and get hit with a great twist ending...

If I had to suggest you just 15 to watch I’d suggest these. The top of the list are probably more-so similar to the ones you’ve already seen, with the ones at the bottom being more drama/comedy. All are imo brilliant, if you do watch any I hope you enjoy:

Armageddon

The Green Mile

Law Abiding Citizen

Silence of the Lambs

Shutter Island

Goodfellas

Jaws

Jurassic Park

Okja (Korean)

The Hunt (Danish)

When Harry Met Sally

Chef

Little Miss Sunshine

The Full Monty

Some Like It Hot
