Echoes

Poem

Somber thoughts run through my head
contemplating the life to which this lead
Breathing new life to what was said
and all I hear are echoes.

Of all the paths I dared not tread
the love and romance tales I've read
I wimper softly in my bed
Since all I hear are echoes.

If this or that were true instead
If only I stayed or begged or pled
If darkness weren't inside my head
But all I hear are echoes.

I hear the whispers that I dread
of demons past, from which I've fled
They talk of times I've cried and bled
Not all I hear are echoes.
