The hero and the heroin

Poem

You can never compete with the lure of poetry
I can always find waters deeper than you
You can never follow me where I go
I don’t even know what I need you for
...but I do

A primeval force compels me
To fight for the scraps you’re made of
And how I wish I could put my arms down
But mine is a tyrant king

I am a hero, you are my heroin

Living in an Eden
Surrounded by a desert of boredom
You are a star falling over the horizon
Beckoning, disturbing my sleep
Tearing me away from paradise
To find out you are made of sand

All those slayed dragons I left behind
For what?

If only you didn’t want me for my effort
I’d master the inspiration to adore you
Instead you make me walk
Dragging my wings around
Like a pilgrim to the promise of you
Which you can never keep

I need one, and love another.
What is your curse?

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

I love the imagery in the last stanza of dragging your wings around, like you were more similar to the dragons you slayed. Amazing!!

I like how it's full of metaphors(All those slayed dragons left behind; made of sand; scraps you've made from ect.). It's well written, story is understandable and easily readable, not too short. I also liked the ending curse and the question behind it. Adds a piece to the story.

I recommend adding how you fell for her into your story if possible. Overall I liked your story.
