Spacebuild Comprehensive Setup Guide
I spent the last 3 days learning how to do all of this, and there really doesn't seem to be a comprehensive up-to-date guide out there. So here's my attempt: (Work in progress!)
Tools You Will Need: Download and install these first!
- A subversion client is required to grab most of these files. It means you always get the most up-to-date versions of everything, what's not to love? Tortoise SVN works great on Windows
- A depackaging tool: WinRAR, 7zip, or any other one you love.
Steps to Success
First, I'll cover the installation of mods that are required for a functioning SpaceBuild experience.
-
Bring up Windows Explorer, and navigate to the following directory:
C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/*username*/garrysmod/garrysmod/addons/
NB: Your Program Files may not be on C:, if you're on a 32-bit system go to Program Files rather than Program Files (x86)
- Create a new folder here, name it Spacebuild 3
- Go to this link in your web browser
- Under the section entitled Spacebuild 3, copy the link address for the first item, "Spacebuild (contains SB, LS, RD and CAF)"
- Back to explorer, right click on the folder you created, and select SVN Checkout
- Tortoise SVN should automatically populate the target field with the link you copied. Verify this is correct, and hit OK.
- Wait for the many many files of SpaceBuild to download!
- Repeat steps 1-8 with the following folders and SVN links:
- Go here and do the same with each other item under the bold heading Spacebuild 3
- SBEP: Go here and grab the SBEP Main SVN
For direct downloads, simply extract the file you get into your /garrysmod/garrysmod/addons folder where you put the SVNs.
That's it for Spacebuild - you can now create basic spaceships and die horrible deaths in space. However, you probably also want to use the following mods. Most of them are SVN based, which you use exactly as above.
SVN Based Recomended Mods:
| Name | What is it? | SVN link | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| WireMod | Adds wiring and electronics - allows you to control your ships | SVN Link | Most SBEP items require WireMod to fully work |
| Unofficial Wiremod Extras | A few additional WireMod tools | SVN Link | Not required by any means, but these can be really useful |
| Advanced Duplicator | Allows you to copy, paste, and save your creations | SVN Link | Important if you ever create something you want to keep! |
| PewPew | (Formerly GCombat) Allows for damage, needed for guns to work fully | SVN Link | Why have spaceships if you can't have space battles? |
| Stargate | Adds fully functional and Wire compatible Stargates from your favorite series | [SVN Link] (http://svn.daggeringcats.com/stargate) | username/password:anon/anon |
| Stargate Extras | Lots more models and types of Stargates - requires Stargate | SVN Link | Let's go to Atlantis! |
| Direct Download Recommended Mods: |
| Name | What is it? | Download link | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nuke Pack 4 | Needed for the more explosive ship-based weapons | Link | Point away from face! |
| Smartweld | Stick things together better | Link | |
| Stacker | Stack items perfectly | Link |
Let me know if you have any others you recommend, and I'll add them.
Once you have all these running, you can start a Spacebuild game in singleplayer or local multiplayer by selecting a Spacebuild map (prefix sb_) using the toybox!
Right now, I don't know of any good servers, but I'll update here if I find any. Enjoy!
