The Cruel Moon
As I lay in bed
The cruel moon rose
Through closed curtains
I was nothing. I became
Every crevice and dark corner
Filed-away memories
Friends and family sailed by
In the moon's milky brine
I turned on the fake
Clinical light
Which dispelled the cruel moon in an instant
From the corners - at least
But I could not sleep
The sharpness, the unnaturalness
The unjustified flick of a switch
A twitch, cutting
Nature into pieces
Oddly,
I can only admire
The dreadful moon now
The aching, crying moon
Splashed across the clouds
Whispering cruelty without friends
Or family to speak of
I think it was trying it's best to reach me
So I sat there
And admired the moon
With my light on
