Little Things
I’m living for the little things.
For fluffy socks and waffle throws,
Those sweets that fizz and remind me of the times Mum let me keep fifty pence from her change.
I’m living for melted cheese and Yorkshire tea,
For dipping my fingers in candle wax and peeling it off in a single, perfect shell.
For the way the word ‘crackle’ sounds,
And that feeling when I sink my boots into fresh fallen snow.
For the colour orange,
The way my towel feels when it’s dried in the sun,
And those little beans on my cat’s feet.
I’m living for soft, small, and warm.
For heavy rain, and wicker baskets, and those pens that feel
Just right.
I’m living for those little pieces of life that we only find
When we are alive.
