She played that character so well. She'll be missed.
So well I saw the post and was like he'll ya I hate Kai Winn! Before back tracking to the wonderful actor we no longer have...
Absolutely hated her character. She was wonderful in the role. The fake niceness thing she pulled off so well.
Yeah one of those actors you gotta remind your self I hate her character not the actor
May the prophets welcome her into the celestial temple.
Umm didn't she switch teams to the Pah-wraith though?
She switched back at the last second and finally embraced Sisko as the true emissary while telling him how to destroy the book of the Kosst Amojan before Dukat engulfed her in flames.
Don't get me wrong, I HATED Kai Winn, she was the ultimate Karen. It goes to show how good an actor Louise was. Louise deserves to be welcomed into the celestial temple.
Plus something tells me it'd be right up the Prophets' alley to accept Winn into the Temple. A sign of their benevolence; also, since Sisko's there, he probably was like, "Let's let her in anyway. I wouldn't be here without her."
Considering they knew the whole time, they never once spoke to her. Because they had to follow the script. So later that could call her in, finally explain it in their usual manner.
You'd like to think in the end there was some closure there.
Yes, then as she was want to do right back. For the usual reason. Revenge.
Sad news indeed. I absolutely loathed Kai Winn. Everything about her just radiated contempt. She was portrayed perfectly.
RIP Louise, you did some amazing work there.
Wow. Louise Fletcher, Kai Winn, is dead. I'm shocked and sad. She was an awesome actress, even won an Oscar for her performance in "One flew over the cuckoo's nest". Her portrayal of Kai Winn wasn't any different, it was an outstanding performance. Rest in Peace, and thank you!
Oh, wow. I've seen both DS9 and Cuckoo's nest, I always thought she looked kind of familiar, but never went to IMDB to see what else she was in.
Yes, she was younger in that movie. She is one of the few people that when filmed with a camera, she has a presence that is very strong and whenever you look at her face, and her expression, you feel that there is something behind it. Something interesting will come from that person, you just see it. Jack Nicholson has that presence too. You could paint them and you would look at the picture for hours. Every scene with them becomes instantly interesting. The older they get, the more interesting they become. It's fascinating. We can be glad that she was cast for DS9, she was such a big win for that show. I'm really sad.
A few friends of mine and I held a vigil at the Bajoran Temple in Hathon earlier when we heard the news. We had to leave after some asshole decided to troll the vigil with party poppers and party amplifiers.
I may have hated Kai Winn... but she's a character you love to hate, because she was written and portrayed so well. Be with the Prophets, my child.
As yes the "expressing themselves differently" player.
I remember that one fleet kept harassing people at Nemoy's vigils.
Ok, your comment made me think "F that guy", made me wish STO was an open PVP environment, so I could at random hunt them down and make em explode. 🤣😂
She was an amazing actress. A perfect gem that could play the character that you loved to hate. R.I.P.
Damn! We lost Kai Opaka less than a year ago.
RIP
Sad news.
was reading an article where she said that 40% of her fan mail was from Cuckoo's Nest and another 40% was from Star Trek
R.I.P. Louise Fletcher as Nurse Ratchet and as Kai Winn was cast perfectly.
In DS9, Every time I saw her on the screen, I wanted to punch her in the face. Every time she opens her mouth, I wanted to hold her head underwater. She is such a fantastic actress, I had to keep reminding myself how good she was, to make me truly hate that character so much.
Have patience, my child.
Louise made you cringe your teeth, clench your fist, and hold out for Kira to punch her in the face.
I loved Winn-Kira's adversarial relationship, which was taken to nemesis perfection on DS9 6x21 "The Reckoning".
Bajoran Ragnarok/Apocalypse was kind of a letdown, but I love this episode, largely due to Louise and Nana's acting. Their best episode opposite each other as far as I'm concerned.
You really have to hand it to Trek. They got some fantastic actors.
No one could play Kai Winn as well as she did.
RIP.
Man why's this year gotta keep taking star trek people 😭 who started cutting onions in here?
RIP
Join Prophets in the Celestial Temple, Kai Winn. We'll never forget you.
Fun fact: I actually was interested in watching “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” because of her and her performance on DS9 and absolutely had to see how she portrayed evil Nurse Ratched.
I hate her character but she was so good at her role in DS9 that I just wanted more of episodes with Winn.
RIP :( she played so many good roles and played villains with such precision.
she was very good as kai winn... i hated that character which is the making of a great actor if you have an emotion reaction to a character. May she RIP.
I did not know she passed away. I always hated the character, but I guess that just means she was a great actress. It is a sad day.
She died just yesterday
I was never a fan of the character, and even then I felt they kind of did her (and Marc Alaimo) a bit dirty with the finale arc for DS9... but I made it a point of distinction to hate the character, not the actress. She did an amazing job with the writing and direction she got, and evoked frustration and ire exactly as she was supposed to.
It takes a singular kind of talent and charisma to portray someone vile like Nurse Ratched and Kai Winn, while still being a generally alright person. I hope it was at least a pleasant passing, and her memory is more fond to those she loved then not.
One of the best characters that I loved to hate, she made the environment deviously rich and dynamic; her impact on the franchise is forever felt.
RIP Louise Fletcher.
