Temporary crown popped off

I don't smoke or drink.

I have a temporary crown on tooth 19. I felt it become loose while eating my lunch today. Sure enough, I can pull it right off. I've put it back on for now, but was wondering if I should leave it on or off until I get my permanent crown, which should be sometime in the coming week. It stays in place pretty well, especially if I don't chew on that side, though food is getting caught by the edges of the crown. Should I clean it and my tooth? Would toothpaste and a good brushing be enough?
