Did they really finally fix the lights that run along the edges? They were broken for years.

I saw a post here some years ago from the guy who broke them accidentally and he said his mistake was too costly to fix so they just never did.

I moved out of town for a period of time but grew up here in the OC with the Cube being a staple of passing ‘that’ part of the fwy. I honestly don’t remember it ever being lit up but it sounds like it was during the period of time that I was studying out of town.

I distinctly recall a time when the Cube started to look a little sorry and the story about someone accidentally breaking the lighting strips sounds about right lol

Glad to see it (kinda) in better shape than I have in the past.

Yup, it's been fixed: https://www.reddit.com/r/orangecounty/comments/xj05jd/i_am_proud_to_announce_that_after_20_years

The redditor who broke the lights was tagged in the post and they even responded with some comments.

Looks nice, but overall I dont care for it. Santa Ana is notorious for light pollution. This is a desperate attempt to get some foot traffic there since the 2020 shutdown. Same with mainplace, they also installed color changing led lights by jcpennny.

That’s a fair and reasonable position. I respect the need to reduce light pollution. It is fun for kids tho. It’s not nearly as bad as the Irvine Spectrum ferris wheel lighting situation
