How long will water weight increase?

I'm finishing up my first month on TRT (all is great so far) and track my food intake and weight pretty closely. For how long after starting TRT did you continue to gain water weight? Just wondering when this will plateau.

Mine came off spontaneously around week 10 then again at week 12. I'm no longer bloated. This was regardless of what E2 was at, potassium intake, sodium intake, etc.

I'm curious about this one too.

How much did/have you gained? How’s your E2?

I've been at roughly a 500 cal deficit and had been dropping about a pound a week prior to TRT. In the past month I'm basically the same weight, though I've had 1 week where I gained 2 lbs. So overall no weight gain, just no weight (scale) loss despited the deficit. Given that, water retention hasn't been a big deal at all, just curious what the timing is like for others. Initial E2 was 10.5 pg/ml, but no updated tests since. Note I'm 55, 6'2", 178lbs, and about 14% BF.

Just keep in mind that fat loss is slow and nonlinear overall regardless of specific diet or other protocol

Thanks, I 100% understand that.

Possibly some positive muscle retention and visceral fat loss. May be what's keeping you even. The scale hasn't moved much for me but I've gained some muscle and retained what I have and having proper levels will lose more visceral fat (the fat around your organs that you can't see). Just a thought:)

It plateaus and will go away, your body is adjusting, but you need to manage sodium intake. Estrogen levels and sodium are the two main culprits after the initial water/weight gain dissipates.

Any rough idea on how much sodium per day to try and alleviate bloat?

2
dras333•

No because it will differ for everyone, but activity level and perspiration will also a factor. I’d say that chances are unless you are consciously aware of your diet and manage it, you are probably consuming too much. I know I do when I get lazy and I’m pretty aware, but eating well all the time is boring. Then sure as hell, I eat clean again and the sodium bloat drops off in a day or two.

This, if you eat french fries every day u will bloat in 1-2weeks. If your estrogen is high u will bloat. If you e2 is high and you take an ai you will deflate in one week or two.

So I’m assuming the goal is to keep sodium down and E2 at a solid ratio with test? (Though I’m not sure what the ratio should be). Thanks

I'm having this problem as well. Averaging a 1000 cal deficit/day assuming my BMR is only 1 standard deviation low. Only down about 5 pounds in the past 10 weeks of TRT. Everything I have read indicates 10 weeks is the soonest, with it mostly resolving at 6 months.

1000 cal deficit a day? That’s alot

When you're 80lbs overfat, single, and 31 it's a bit easier to do. It sucks but i don't think i could handle waiting another 2 years to be able to date again.

why not try some GH or tren?

I imagine it’s different for everyone, diet, dose, aldosterone reaction.

What have you tried to combat it?

Nothing so far as it's been pretty minor and was expected.

Took me like 5-6 weeks to level out

Jesus Christ! I didn't even know this was a thing. I've been 1000 cal deficit and wondering why the scale is moving so slowly. Super disheartening, so I am sooooo happy this came up as a suggested post.

Yes, so am I! I tract everything that goes into my mouth through an app, and couldn’t understand why I was gaining for a few weeks despite being at a deficit.

I gained about 10-15lbs when I started TRT… started Semaglutide about a month ago have started to shed some of the water weight.

Many guys find themselves adding 10-15 pounds within the first 5-6 weeks. This is something you can probably Google.
