This poem feels so cozy. I love the feeling that an entire summer's worth of memories was tucked away by the previous owners of the house.

admittedly, leans very hard into prose! I can see it now. that's a general flaw of mine but I could see how the "Soon I exhausted...." section, yeah, that could definitely be tighter and it would be a better poem for it.

Those last lines were the first written and then I wrote everything else, that's often how I do things, and I'm always so concerned about a good ending I can mess up the technique. But ! I'm glad you enjoyed it, REALLY GLAD. Wasn't sure. Just trying different subjects in poetry here and there recently and I'm not often nostalgic

The last few lines (“but decades… Van Halen”) is a gorgeous gulp of nostalgia. I loved this ride. You used a narrative style that’s hard to pull off (and I’ll admit, there are a few spots where you leaned too hard into narration and I felt like I was reading prose). Overall, your vivid and chunky details, the lonely teenage emotion/need for connection you captured, really stellar.

Enjoyed this. Relatable. A rite of passage distilled into a tight story but still with passing insights into the protagonists life and mindset. Liked the skip forward into the future to provide a comparison with that summer.

Hahahahha. Light felonies! Hahahha. So, do you still play? And isn’t obsession worth its weight in gold!

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that.
