Merriam Webster is a good source of definitions. I also use Oxford for alternative definitions, and looking up words you don't know as you read is a great way to expand your vocabulary.

At the same time, most people learn most of the GRE vocabulary words they learn by studying GRE focused lists, of which there are many are available.

I recently started reading Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari, as suggested by [u/gregmat](https://www.reddit.com/user/gregmat) in one of his videos. While reading I encountered many new words. So, my question is

&amp;#x200B;

1. should I google each word and write it's meaning with the example, which I believe would be time consuming.
2. I found that [vocabulary.com](https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/) has word usage examples from NYT or Science Magazine etc. Is it      recommended to from a list of this examples. Sometimes examples are quite difficult to understand.
3. Also, can anyone suggest which websites should I refer to while looking for a word from GRE vocab perspective. I mostly use [Cambridge Dictionary](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/), I have also heard of [merriam-webster](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dictionary) , [vocabulary.com](https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/) and [collinsdictionary](https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/) but not sure which one is more accurate from GRE perspective.
