My stepfather used to unbox and charge electronic gifts, and then carefully wrap them in most of the original packaging.

Are kids getting worse at cutting things?

Should’ve specified age range I guess lol, my kids are way too young to open the boxes with a million zip ties in them and also too young to see the boxes in the big trash bin outside. I can see how from age 7/8ish this would change.

Or they can already figure out what it is by the shape of it before they unwrap it.

3. It's a great way to make them much harder to wrap

1. It's your robbing your kids of half the enjoyment of opening presents
2 that's a great way to ruin surprise presents as they'll see the boxes in the bin

Eh. This will work only if you're sure you won't need to return an item- for which you will need the original packaging.

Who needs to save time Christmas morning? Do you have to get to your secret second family's christmas?

And how many presents are your kids getting that this is an issue?

Is 'saving time' something you want to do on Christmas morning? Is it such a hassle to take out the trash after Christmas compared to unboxing them all and trashing it pre-Christmas? Don't kids enjoy unboxing? Don't the presents look better fully boxed and wrapped?

I honestly don't see the need/reason to do this.

As a person that always carries a pocketknife on me, I have to disagree. Those of us like me very much enjoy the kids coming to us to open up their toys. They all know who in the family has a pocketknife. Plus, we get to enjoy the gifts also.

I think this is horrible advice. My siblings and I loved unwrapping presents I'm taking the brand new untouched items out of the boxes.

excellent for keeping them out of your hair for a few hours lol

Unbox your gifts, then put them all in the wrong boxes, and then wrap them up.

Nah, unboxing is part of the magic + without the boxes, it looks like a second hand gifts (nothing wrong with that but if you spent the money on new things, they should look new)

We're starting this copypasta in October?

Alternatively, keep a pair of scissors to hand on Christmas morning!

LPT: unbox as many of your kids’ Christmas gifts as possible before wrapping them.
