my partner almost killed our dog
Throwaway for obvious reasons. My partner does not use reddit but just incase I can't pay for tax. But our dog is home now and she will be healing slowly.
Basically our dog loves putting her head out the window. Like most dogs do. Our dog is very high energy. She is constantly running back and forth from window to window in the back seat. The window is always put down just enough for her to poke her head out but enough to get even one paw out.
Long story short we were on our street and there was puppy out on their own yard. Our dog always gets excited when she sees other dogs. She always wimpers and barks at them and sometimes she paws at windows at doors to make know she wants to see them. well this time our dog was able to get out of the window. I just happened to look at the back seat as her back legs were already out of the window. My partner did not notice. It took me screaming to stop for her to stop the care so I could run after her.
Our dog didn't realize it wasnt use at first and she growled at us. Then when she realized it is let us grab her and put her in the car. I will never forget when I ran up to her and she coughed blood out of he face. I will never forget the smell of all the iron from her own blood covering her. And I will never forget my partner screaming and crying as she sat in the back seat while I drove us to the vet hospital.
The only thing I could think while driving was "if she dies while I'm driving her to the hospital I will never be able to forgive her." Luckily after 5 hours at the vet hospital she is safe home with a few cuts on her face, blood behind her eye(but is much less swollen, the eye should go back normal soonish), and a small fracture in her jaw. She will need to be on a soft diet for the next 4 to 6 weeks. And those tape muzzles to make sure her jaw stays in place to heal. I'm just happy she is home but now I am feeling anger that this show of never happened. We always argue how low to have the windows in the car and hers is always lower than mine. Especially since our dog always chews through the car vest to the point where they would last a a week or two before she chewed through the vest enough for her not be able to use it. Anyway I'm ranting now. I do take some blame in this I know I'm not blameless. It's only been a day and I'm struggling to forgoive my partner for her part to play. I'm sure I'll get there and I think I'll suggest therapy but anyway thanks listen to me rant for a bit.
