NJPW Royal Quest 2 Night 2 Review

Hi! I just got out of Royal Quest 2 Night 2 and wanted to give my review!! (this idea is copied from someone who reviewed night 1, so sorry……) BTW these are ordered WORST to BEST aswell so :) Also my opinions may be controversial haha

8th Place - Jazzy Gabert defeats Ava White (10:33). Unranked Yeah… it’s a shame that we didn’t get any joshi stars, but that doesn’t affect my rating. The crowd was dead cold with only a few cheers that would come to a halt fairly quickly. Ava attempted a power bomb???? on Jazzy but dropped her on her head. That was definitely a holy shit that went around the crowd. Everyone was just looking at eachother like wtf. Also didn’t help that that wasn’t even the only stiff landing. A few minutes before that there’s like a styles clash type move but again a girl lands really weird on her neck. I did feel bad for the girls because it was clear they were trying to heat up the crowd.

7th Place - GOD & Tanahashi vs Bullet Club (10:52). 2/5 Not a bad match, but Tanahashi really didn’t have a lot of match time. Whenever he would get in the ring, he’d get thrown out. Tama, Hikuleo, and Jay have really nice chemistry tho, super excited for Tama and Jay. Nice heel work, and a nice finish with a gun stun.

6th Place - Okada defeats Tito (8:13). 2/5 Ok so this could be a hot take, but I thought the match was pretty eh at best. Okada did some of his notorious spots like the pile driver into rainmaker, dropkicks etc. The match was super short being the shortest on the whole night. Tito had some nice moments countering the rainmaker. Really just not that memorable tho.

5th place - Douki and Despy defeat Robbie X and Michael Oku (9:32) 3/5 From this match onwards, I would consider these all ‘good matches that you should watch’. First time seeing the RevPro guys live and they were amazing. great high flying match with suicide dives,a really nice spot where Oku and Robbie it continuous high flying moves (frog splash, standing moonsault and springboard moonsault). Desperado was so over. Also would love to see the RevPro guys partake in more Njpw (cough cough BOSJ)

4th place - Hiromu and Sanada defeat Young guns (14:02) 3/5 Great comedic moments at the start, nice tag team spots aswell. I feel like this was the first time hiromu fought in the uk? He was getting all the love. Props to Sanada he can really work a crowd.

3rd place - Naito defeats ZSJ (21:03) 3.25/5 Super hot crowd. I’m an LIJ guy but really shocked Sabre didn’t win. Nice comedic moments, and good spots. Good technical work by Zack nd great selling by Naito. Zack countered the destiny into a Zack driver. Zack countered a lot of Naitos common sequences. Running forearm into an armbar for example. Also countered Naito’s corner drop kick into some nice rope submissions. Red shoes was getting the love. Naito hits THREE Destinos in less than like one minute to win.

2nd place - United Empire defeat FTR, RKJ, Shota, and Kidd (16:56) 3.5/5 Obviously a lot of bad blood going into this match. Shota opens up explosive against Ospreay. FTR and Aussie Open are so over with the crowd. Aussie Open hit a finisher, and so do FTR. Nice spot where all of UE each run up and hit a certain someone in the corner Gideon Grey’s character work is top notch. Ospreay has a couple nice spots but like Tanahashi really did feel like he was absent from the match. I’m happy O-Khan got the finish. I’m not a RevPro guy but RKJ and Shota really impressed me.

1st place - Ishii defeats Yota (17:33) 4.5/5 Majority of it was hard hitting strikes by beefy men. Yato was a replacement for JONAH so I felt bad that he wasn’t really getting any love. First match of his I watched but I fell in love. Ending sequence had us all on our feet, rapid fire kick outs that felt like they went on forever. Brainbusta, Alabama slam, Brainbusta, Lariat. Just so good.

Overall, really nice night. A lot of people were hyping FTR vs AO, but I really do hope the Ishii match gets the praise it deserves.
