Thank you so much I just wrote this today.

I think this poem is fascinating in that the phrasing makes it feel uncertain whether the speaker is speaking to another or themselves. I can get 3 different readings from "I wish you would see the woman in front of you":

1. The speaker is the woman and she is speaking to herself (possibly in front of a mirror).
2. The speaker is someone who cares for the woman and wishes she could see herself.
3. The speaker is the woman and she is speaking to another "you" in a "look at me I understand you" kind of way.

Regardless of the interpretation, I really get the feeling of frustration and sadness from this poem, thank you for sharing.

Same with funyunyanyan's comment. At first read, I thought it was referring to someone else (the typical love scenario)...but in the end, I guess she was saying things to herself (I can imagine her saying this while in front of a mirror). I think in the end, from what I can understand, is her saying to appreciate herself more (rather than from what I read at first, was making someone stop looking at someone else and notice her, lol). I think this poem is about self-love and to start being honest with herself and not pretend that everything is okay (stop fooling the world, stop singing and dancing - those things to me are what free people do, they sing and dance) because it's not? Being able to accept love also needs for our pains and hurts to be acknowledged. Lovely poem.
