i hate poetry
I've always hated poetry
Rhyming makes it sound frivolous
Timing makes for constant compromise
Like a closing time bar dribble kiss
.
The first line has such options
Rhyme makes the second a cage
Now one must find an exit
Like a toddler leaving the stage
.
Now I've set the rhythm
I must stick to it like a fly
On flypaper in a camps kitchen
Or fall in the pan to fry
.
Some lines must be read quite quickly
To pretend I got the right number of syllables
Some rhymes must be lubricated
So I can make them fit in holes
.
Cliché seems necessary
To fit ideas into this form
Struggle, bend, twist, turn
Thus beauty will be born
.
Say what you will of love
Now irony's my captor
Don't blind yourself to the truth
Hatred is an attractor
.
