The Great Irony
Humanity’s greatest irony
Is the tragic projection of our gravest insecurity
To the land, we define every tree, flower, and creature
To the seas, we define every ocean, fish, and shell
To the skies, we define every layer, bird, and storm
From the smallest parts of an atom
To the ever expanding universe
Everything, even the undiscovered
We define and stand ready with our pens
Dying for another entry into our journal
However, there is one empty page
An empty page created at the dawn of our existence
It remains blank to this day
Cursed humans rendered confused
Either by consequence, chance, or coincidence
The result?
Lost souls on a never ending quest
Defining, creating and penning purpose
Scourging the earth and every planet
Hoping to find the answer
Whether it’s God, the universe, or just me
The laughs surely echo in the distance
Ahh the great irony
Rational beings blessed with opposable thumbs
Unable to grasp ourselves
