Notes on picking daily winners
Besides the official rules of the subreddit, here are my current thoughts on picking daily winners after doing this for 40 days. I don't have to stick to any guidelines and can do whatever I want, but I'll still explain some of my rationale.
I'm not trying to do a "good thing" or "give back to the community." I do this for FUN.
I don't mind people saying "thank you," but please I am NOT trying to hear about how great or generous I am. I am very privileged to have the time, energy, and money to spare for this, and I do it to benefit ME. It's entertaining, it increases my exposure to help me find rare items, and it feels good to give stuff away.
"Guidelines"
- Content is more likely to win if it is:
- Funny to me
- Unique/rare on this sub
- High-effort
- Engaging (promotes discussion)
- Posted by someone who hasn't won before
- Things that should NOT affect my decision
- Upvote count
- How much I personally like the person
- Total number of wins (once you get your first win, you're evaluated the same as someone who has won many times)
Here's an example: Today I was deciding between this high-effort giveaway post by u/Septicest (previous winner) and this simple "W or L" post by u/Ettor_fan101 (new user). Septicest's post was much higher-effort, but Ettor_fan101's post was a new type of post for this subreddit, although it is pretty unoriginal overall. It was close, but since Ettor_fan101 hadn't won before, I gave it to him. If someone were to make another "W or L"-type post now, even if they were a new user, it would have a very low chance of winning unless it had some original twist or joke.
I'll probably revise this over time.
