Europe Itenerary

Me and my brother are planning on backpacking through Europe this summer, and we were wanting to see everything that should be seen in Europe. I’ve seen different itinerary ideas on google, but wanted to see if anyone here had one they really enjoyed for a 2 month backpacking trip.

Few notes:

  • Seeing everything that should be seen in Europe is impossible, not only because of the amount of time you have, but also everyone's definition of a must see is different. We have no idea what kinds of stuff you want to see.
  • 40-50 dollars per day is not really feasible in the big destinations, especially with all the inflation happening. You could probably make that work further east but no shot in places like London or Paris.

Here's a few categories and personal favorite destinations to help you get the ball rolling

Art: Florence, Vienna, Paris

Architecture: Prague, Rome, London

History: Rome, London, Paris

Food: Florence, Lyon, Budapest

Nature/Hiking: Lauterbrunnen, Bergen, Cinque Terre

Overall favorites: Budapest, Florence, Prague

My overall advice, for something like a 2 month trip I'd keep your itinerary loose. Keep a list of places you want to see, maybe split them into "must sees" and "like to sees", maybe make a few possible routes, but just plan/book places as you go. You might want to stay in a place longer, or learn about new places from other travelers

Oh, and we are each expecting to spend roughly 40-50$ per day, is that a reasonable estimate? Any other first timer tips would be appreciated!

Is that all in (accommodation + food + activities + transport) Personally I'd say that's too low, it might be fine in Eastern Europe but even then won't leave that much left for doing stuff and traveling around.

Each or total? That number seems low to me between activities and food

$40-$50 may have been feasible before COVID era inflation. With hostels running €25-30, it doesn't leave you much room for food/activities/transportation. I did about $70 a day including airfare and trains this summer. But I was in Europe for 3 months, which makes it easier.
