ISC2 Proposed By-Laws changes & Board of Directors Election

News - General

If you hold a certification from ISC2, you should have received an email on Friday (10/14) regarding the upcoming annual meeting, as well as a vote on By-Laws changes that have been proposed by the Board of Directors.

Please go read those proposals. They effectively remove all oversight of the Board by the membership. Elections will only have as many candidates as there are openings, so actually an affirmation, not an election. Write-in votes will be banned. If you want to petition onto the ballot, it will now require 1% of the membership to petition for you (about 1500 petitions), vs. 500 currently. Nobody has been able to make the 500 number in years. They would eliminate the Ethics committee completely, and limit membership on other standing committees to members of the Board only. ISC2 will be presenting a webinar about these proposals on 10/19 and you can ask questions. Whether those questions will be answered or not remains to be seen. Registration for the webinar can be found at https://www.isc2.org/News-and-Events/Webinars/ThinkTank

I encourage you to vote against these By-Laws changes once voting opens on 10/19. I also encourage you to go to https://jsweb.net/isc2 and review a different set of By-Laws changes intended to give more oversight power to the members. Please review those and sign the petition so we can get a chance to vote those instead.

In addition, this could be the last year that write-in votes are accepted for the Board of Directors election. The following 5 people are committed to increasing transparency and oversight of the Board. Full disclosure, I am one of the 5. Please write-in our names, even if it is just to protest the Board only giving you 5 names to choose from for 5 open seats.

Wim Remes - Belgium

Stephen Mencik - US

Richard Nealon - Republic of Ireland

Sami O. Koskinen - Finland

Diana-Lynn Contesti - Canada

Thank-you very much for your attention in reading this far. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Also, please go to the isc2.org website and read the many threads on this subject on their community message boards.
