Thanks for reading! Of course, tell us what you think!

I really like the rhythm to this. I'm able to read it over and over again. I feel moderately confident that there is an intended meaning and that my interpretation of this poem is correct. Am I allowed to say what I think? I kinda don't wanna affect other people's view of it. But if I am correct, I like the subject matter and the take on it!

Thanks for reading! This is a really accurate analysis. I’m glad you enjoy it!

God I love this! From my interpretation, it's a typical dinner party, probably with family. You finally sit down to eat and are working away when you realize the façade that's hiding them all, a thin veneer of discontent and loathing. You can see what the dinner guests are hiding and they hate it. I love it. The succinctness of the poem, to the point, a feel of "This is what I'm writing about. Take it or leave it." Excellent.

At first I thought this was written from a woman talking about a man, then I re-read it and it felt like a man talk about about a woman. Taking away the gender construct here, it feels like someone is being used as fuel.

Erm idk I’m pretty new, just would love to her the flow out loud.

Thanks so much for reading! Do people often post audio here?

This is a beautiful poem, it flows ridiculously well and has a lovely rhythm. I would love to hear this read out aloud. As for the meaning I interpret this as people are so kind and outgoing when you first meet them, then they can turn so sour once you get comfortable. I don’t know if that’s your intention but either way I love it.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

Brilliant use of words and rhythm here. Rhyme scheme is great, love how “barely” and “wares” somehow rhyme from within the first two lines. Same with “charity” and “Harry”. Really great stuff here honestly

Thanks for reading! I’m glad you enjoy it!

This reads like a nursery rhyme, the flow is great, the flow and rhyme scheme make this poem seem happy at first but the poem is more of a warning. The juxtaposition of the happy rhythm and serious tone make for a very interesting poem. Overall, this is a great poem 👍

They’re merrily meeting you, Barely mistreating you,

Sharing their most cherished wares when they’re seating you.

Once you get settled and love what you’re eating,

You suddenly see that they’re carelessly cheating.

No wonder they’re feeding you charity greetings.

They trick every Tom, Dick, and Harry competing.

With parity fleeting, they’re verily beating you.

Scary who they would impede when they’re needing to.
