A long walk home
I’m lost in the mountains, seeking
something I’ll never find.
The wind tears through me, shrieking
for those I’ve left behind.
The path back home is hidden
among the mist-shrouded cliffs
where my feet will tread, unbidden
when this grief-cloud lifts.
From these mountains where
the lost can’t be found,
but where the clear mountain air
lets my heart heal around
the hole that was made
to fill the mound
where we lay our flowers down.
It’s a long walk home
to where the hearth-fire is burning,
to where our children roam
and my heart is yearning.
Now the mist is rising,
the sun shines through,
the path is winding,
I’ll be home soon.
